01 What Material Is The Aluminum LED Channels?

A wall-mounted linear light system is built from a few key components. Here is what they are made of and why it matters for your project.

Aluminum Extrusion — 6063-T5

The material used to manufacture aluminum extrusion is 6063-T5. The aluminum extrusion is also known as “extruded aluminum” and it is a popular material for manufacturing LED channels. Aluminum was chosen over other metals because it has high thermal conductivity and it is easy to work with.

HEAT SINKS

Finned 6063-T5 Aluminum

Heat sinks are a vital part of LED lighting structures. LED lights produce heat internally at the expense of light lumens. Finned heat sinks transfer heat to the outside air and provide more surface area — the most commonly used in LED extrusions.

PC DIFFUSERS

Polycarbonate

Diffusers are mainly made of polycarbonate (PC). PC has high resistance to UV light and is highly transparent. It is extremely durable and can withstand the elements for many years.

END CAPS

Plastic or Metal

Most end caps are made of plastic, but some are made of metal. They prevent damage to the profile during shipping or storage, and provide a solid, secure attachment.

02 Hanging & Mounting Your Linear Light

Suspension Cables

For hanging LED channels, suspension cable is a must-have. It can connect the LED channel to the power supply and control box. The cable comes in 3 different lengths: 1m, 2m, and 3m. There are two ways to hang the LED channels: with brackets or with suspension cables.

STANDARD CLIP

Top-Mounted

Used on most applications where the fixture is mounted from above, such as over kitchen islands, cabinets, and so on. They can also mount an LED panel on a vertical surface, such as a wall or ceiling.

ANGLED CLIP

Horizontal or Angled

Designed for situations where an LED panel needs to be mounted horizontally or at an angle — for example, under kitchen cabinets, angled up toward the countertop to light everything well.

The mounting clips for the LED profiles are made of stainless steel. They are designed to fit into a junction box or other support structure. The clips snap onto the aluminum profile and allow for easy removal of the LED panel if needed.

03 Wall Mounted Linear Light FAQ

Q1What is a wall mounted linear light?

It is an aluminum alloy extrusion structure used to hang lights on the wall or ceiling. It is widely used in residential, commercial, retail, and entertainment lighting.

Q2What material are LED aluminum channels made of?

The aluminum extrusion is made of 6063-T5 aluminum, with PC diffusers, plastic or metal end caps, stainless steel mounting clips, and suspension cables for hanging channels.

Q3How do you hang an LED channel?

There are two ways: with brackets or with suspension cables. Suspension cables come in 1m, 2m, and 3m lengths and connect the channel to the power supply and control box.

Q4What are the two types of mounting clips?

Standard clips are for fixtures mounted from above, such as over kitchen islands or on walls. Angled clips are for horizontal or angled mounting, such as under cabinets aimed at the countertop.
